A MAGA supporter and TikToker known as @lawcroxnotn sparked widespread online backlash after posting an emotional video claiming she felt uneasy about supporting President Donald Trump while visiting Northern Ireland.
In the now-viral clip, the creator described an encounter at a pub where television coverage of international news sparked an unexpected political conversation.
“I walked in with my husband to the central bar, and I immediately noticed that they had the world news on. Rightfully so. There’s a lot of crazy things going on in this world.”
According to her account, the atmosphere in the bar changed after a patron realized the couple was American. She said the interaction started casually but quickly shifted toward politics.
“And the gentleman said, ‘Are you American?’ And I said, ‘Yes, we’re American.’ And I’m not lying to you when I say it instantly went from, ‘Yes, I’m American,’ to, ‘Well, who’d you vote for?'”
The TikToker said she attempted to avoid the topic, explaining that she wanted to enjoy the evening without discussing politics. She told viewers she preferred to keep the conversation light on a night out, especially in a pub.
“I genuinely just wanted to go in, enjoy some pints, and if it was a friendly conversation, I would gladly go back and forth. But to bring up any sensitive topic, anything like that, I would have said the same thing: ‘I don’t want to talk about that. It’s uncomfortable.'”
Although she acknowledged that no one directly targeted her or her husband, she said the mood in the pub gradually became tense as people reacted to the news and continued drinking.
She explained that the environment became increasingly unpleasant, even though the comments were not specifically directed at them.
“Not because of directly what’s going on. Any sensitive topic, especially while drinking, why would you want to talk about something so sensitive? And because the news was on and because people tend to drink in pubs, the more upset they were getting, the more nasty comments began coming.”
However, the video quickly drew criticism from other TikTok users, including liberal creator Mandy Rae, who posts under the handle @pottymouthpollyanna.
In a response video, Rae pushed back on the narrative that the traveler had been mistreated.
“Oh, so they didn’t actually accuse you of anything, you just didn’t wanna answer a question? … At no point has anyone ever asked me who I voted for, and I not just said confidently Kamala Harris or Joe Biden or Barack Obama.”
The TikToker was quickly mocked following her weepy display.
She also argued that being asked about voting choices does not amount to victimization.
“You tried to escape all of it. To go on holiday. Congratulations, you’re allowed to go on vacation. But you’re not a f**king victim because of who you chose to vote for.”
The exchange has since fueled a broader online debate about politics, travel, and how Americans are perceived abroad.
