Donald Trump’s most hardline immigration enforcers rang in the New Year with an unexpected dance moment at Mar-a-Lago, swaying to the early 1990s hit Ice Ice Baby as the president’s youngest son, Barron, stood nearby, appearing far less enthused.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller were filmed dancing during the New Year’s Eve celebration as Vanilla Ice’s signature song played through the packed ballroom. The clip quickly spread online, drawing both cheers and ridicule.
The video was shot by Miller’s wife, Katie, who used the moment to share personal news of her own, revealing she is pregnant with another child. In the footage, Miller nods along to the music with a smile, while Noem raises her hands and begins dancing as the beat drops.
The scene stood in contrast to the serious roles both officials play in the administration. Noem and Miller are central figures in shaping immigration policy and overseeing President Trump’s renewed push for mass deportations. Their lighthearted display surprised some observers, especially given recent reports of tension between them.
Back in December, multiple media outlets reported that Miller and other senior White House officials had grown frustrated with Noem, accusing her of moving too slowly to accelerate deportations. Those reports painted a strained picture behind the scenes, making their cheerful interaction at Mar-a-Lago all the more notable.
Meanwhile, Barron Trump, 19, was seen at the MAGA-themed New Year’s gala standing between his parents with a muted expression. Barron, Melania Trump, and the president sat together at a table as speakers and performers entertained a crowd filled with conservative media figures and minor celebrities. The event even included an appearance by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Another video, shared by White House official Dan Scavino, showed Miller singing along to the lyrics while staring into the camera. Both clips quickly racked up more than 100,000 views on X.
One right-wing user celebrated the moment, writing, “ICE, ICE, BABY at Mar-a-Lago with Stephen Miller bopping and DHS Secretary Noem grooving. 2026 is all about deportations!” Others were less impressed, with one commenter bluntly adding, “This is what I imagine hell is like.”
Vanilla Ice, led by singer Rob Van Winkle, has become a familiar presence at Mar-a-Lago, having performed at previous New Year’s events. Noem, often nicknamed “ICE Barbie” for her polished appearance during enforcement operations, has drawn both praise and criticism for deploying ICE officers to major cities, a strategy directed from the White House by Miller.
Barron’s appearance marked his second public sighting in under a week. The NYU student was also seen at Mar-a-Lago on Christmas Day. Since his father returned to the Oval Office a year ago, Barron has largely avoided the spotlight, rarely appearing in public or speaking to the media.
