HGTV has fired the host of its long-running home renovation series “Rehab Addict” and removed the show from all platforms after she was caught on video using a racist slur.
Nicole Curtis, the longtime face of the popular reality home improvement program, has come under intense backlash after footage surfaced showing her making the offensive remark during filming. According to a Radar report, the video was never aired publicly, but it reportedly captured Curtis using the racial epithet and then immediately reacting with shock, asking the production crew to erase the footage.
In the clip, Curtis appeared to acknowledge that what she said was inappropriate, though she and crew members were heard laughing in the moment. “What the f— is that I just said?” Curtis said, laughing as the HGTV crew off-camera also laughed. “Nick, you gotta, you gotta, can you kill that? F— my life.”

The incident reportedly led the network to take swift action. HGTV had planned to air new episodes of “Rehab Addict” on Wednesday night, but those plans were abruptly scrapped after the video surfaced. The decision marked a major shift for the network, as Curtis had been one of HGTV’s most recognizable personalities and “Rehab Addict” had been a staple of its renovation lineup for years.
Following the backlash, HGTV issued a statement confirming it had become aware of the footage and condemning the language used. “HGTV was recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of Rehab Addict.
We understand that language like this is hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees, and it does not align with the values of HGTV,” according to the statement. The network also confirmed that the show would no longer be available anywhere under the HGTV brand, signaling a complete separation from the series.

“Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms. We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and our workplace.” HGTV did not provide additional details about Curtis’ employment status beyond the show’s removal, but the move strongly suggests the network has ended its relationship with the host.
The decision reflects growing pressure on television networks to respond quickly when public figures are caught using racist language, even if the comments were made off-air. In recent years, entertainment companies have increasingly taken immediate steps to distance themselves from controversial personalities to maintain their brand reputations and align with audience expectations.
Curtis has not issued a public response beyond what was captured in the leaked footage, and it remains unclear whether she plans to address the situation directly.
