Actor and model Ruby Rose has publicly accused singer Katy Perry of sexual assault, breaking a silence she says she has carried for nearly twenty years. The allegation emerged in an unexpected setting. When Complex Music posted on Threads about Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s Coachella performance, Rose responded bluntly in the comments.
“Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a shit what she thinks,” she wrote, catching many off guard with the directness of the claim. As reactions poured in from other users, Rose went further, offering context for why it had taken her so long to speak openly. “I was only in my early 20s.
I’m now 40. It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly. Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes,” she wrote. Rose also revealed that she had previously told the story publicly but had disguised it to protect herself emotionally and professionally.
“After it I threw up on her. I told the story publicly but changed it to be a ‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it. Later she agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret. But I DID tell yall she wasn’t a good person. Instead I got attacked by.. everyone,” she explained.

The admission sheds light on the impossible position many survivors find themselves in navigating trauma while dependent on the very people who caused it. Rose’s reference to her US visa suggests the power dynamic at play made speaking out feel too costly at the time.
Despite the weight of the moment, Rose described a complicated sense of relief at finally going public. “Before I open up about something incredibly raw and traumatic, I tell myself, ‘it’s ok, you don’t need people to believe you, you just need to get it out of your poor body, before it gives you cancer.’
But then I see this post and … tears consume me, in a good way. Thank you,” she wrote in response to messages of support. The allegation has reignited attention on the pair’s previously documented tensions, including public criticism Rose directed at Perry back in 2017. At the time of publication, Katy Perry has not responded to the claims.
