Kiss Founding Guitarist Ace Frehley Dead at 74

Ace Frehley, the legendary guitarist and founding member of the rock band Kiss, has died at the age of 74 after suffering injuries from a fall at his home last month. His family confirmed the news in a heartfelt statement on Thursday.

“We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers, and intentions as he left this earth,” the statement read.

“We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace’s memory will continue to live on forever!”

Frehley passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in Morristown, New Jersey. According to TMZ, the guitarist suffered a serious brain bleed after the fall several weeks ago. He was placed on life support but did not recover. The injury forced him to cancel his scheduled tour dates, and reports indicated that his condition had recently worsened.

Known to fans as “The Spaceman,” Frehley was one of the original four members of Kiss, alongside Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss. He joined the group in 1973 and helped shape its signature sound — a mix of theatrical rock, explosive guitar riffs, and unforgettable stage personas that made Kiss one of the biggest acts of the 1970s.

Frehley’s distinctive guitar playing and showmanship helped propel Kiss to global fame. He wrote and performed on many of the band’s early hits, including “Shock Me,” “Cold Gin,” and “Rocket Ride.” His 1978 self-titled solo album became a fan favorite and produced the hit single “New York Groove.”

After leaving Kiss in 1982, Frehley launched a successful solo career and later formed his own band, Frehley’s Comet, which toured and recorded from 1984 to 1988. He rejoined Kiss in 1996 for their highly successful reunion tour, donning his silver-and-black Spaceman makeup once again. He remained with the group until 2002 before returning to solo work.

Throughout his career, Frehley was celebrated for his pioneering use of special effects, his larger-than-life stage presence, and his influence on generations of guitarists.

Fans and fellow musicians have flooded social media with tributes, remembering him as a rock icon whose music and energy helped define an era. Frehley’s legacy as one of rock’s most influential guitarists will continue to shine through the music he created and the countless artists he inspired.
