After one of its products was recently brought up in the ongoing defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in Virginia, the drugstore cosmetics brand is attempting to clear the air.
Elaine Bredehoft, an attorney for Heard, claimed during opening remarks this week that the “Aquaman” actress wore makeup throughout her “entire relationship with Johnny” and implied that she used it to cover bruises and injuries allegedly caused by Depp, according to the New York Post.
Bredehoft informed the jury that they will be hearing testimony and seeing proof that Heard would achieve this using various makeup items. She also held up the Milani Conceal + Perfect All-in-One Correcting Kit, which she claims Heard used.
When arguing for his client, the lawyer didn’t mention Milani by name, TMZ noted.
According to IB Times, Milani, a cosmetics firm, responded on Thursday to the mention of their product during the trial. The brand said the product cited by Heard’s lawyer did not exist until a year after the actress and Depp split in a video posted on its official TikTok account.
“You asked us… let the record show that our Correcting Kit launched in 2017!” Milani captioned the TikTok post.
“Take note: alleged abuse was around 2014-2016, got divorced 2016, makeup palette release date: December 2017,” read the text over the video that showed Depp and Heard in the courtroom.
A young woman was also shown holding a company product listing and opening the page explaining the makeup compact in the video. The product’s 2017 release date was indicated on a slide.
After three years of engagement, Depp and Heard married in 2015. They met on the set of 2011’s “The Rum Diary.” In May 2016, the actress filed for divorce. In August of that year, the former couple negotiated an agreement, and their divorce was finalized five months later.
Milani’s video has since gone popular on social media, with many people accusing Heard of lying.
“Not y’all calling her out like that. This is one of the many reasons y’all are one of my favorite brands,” one person commented on the post, to which Milani responded: “Obsessed! We are here to provide the facts of the case.”
“Milani just proved Amber Heard is a huge liar!” one person tweeted.
“Apparently, Milani doesn’t want a liar as a spokesperson in any way, shape, or form, which is [their prerogative]. They own their brand, not Amber Heard,” another wrote.
“I am gonna support and buy some Milani brand because they were brave to come out and tell the TRUTH. [Heard] is a LIAR and said she used their makeup corrector to cover bruises…yet it didn’t exist when she was married to #JohnnyDepp. One of many lies,” a third Twitter user wrote.
Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post in 2018 on her experience as a domestic abuse survivor. Despite the fact that she didn’t identify Depp by name, the actor said that the film was “clearly” about him and their relationship and that it destroyed his career.
Four days after the op-ed was published, Disney fired Depp from his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the multi-billion dollar “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Heard, on the other hand, has claimed that she revealed the truth and has filed a countersuit for $100 million.
