On Tuesday, the defamation trial of actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard took a new turn when the latter’s side presented their case.
The Heard camp claimed that Depp abused the actress with a bottle and forced her to have oral sex with him. It was also claimed that during their relationship, the Golden Globe winner subjected Heard to cavity searches.
Dr. Dawn Hughes was the first witness called by the Heard camp. She claimed that after her marriage to Depp, Heard suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the alleged abuse.
“When Mr. Depp was drunk or high, he threw her on the bed, ripped off her nightgown, and tried to have sex with her,” Hughes stated. “There were times when he forced her to give him oral sex when he was angry at her.”
In terms of the alleged cavity searches, Depp allegedly used his fingers to perform them on Heard’s private parts. Hughes went on to say that this had left the 36-year-old actress alone. After Depp abused her with a bottle, the “Aquaman” star distanced herself from him.
Hughes, who specializes in “interpersonal violence abuse,” also stated that the actress was particularly vulnerable as a result of growing up in an abusive household, which is why she learned “to love someone who hurt her,” according to the Post.
“Love and normalcy are almost always in these relationships,” Hughes said. “When you’re in a lull and the violence isn’t happening, you’re back with the man you fell in love with. It creates a trauma bond.”
As per Latin Times, Heard appeared to be on the verge of tears during her testimony about growing up with an abusive father.
“She learned from a very early age how to be a caretaker,” Hughes said. “She learned that she can love someone who hurt her.”
This follows Depp’s claim that Heard was abusive to him and that the allegations leveled against the 58-year-old actor have damaged his career and income.
