After finishing sixth on Britain’s Got Talent, one ex-contestant slammed the show, calling it “fixed.”
Hollie Steel, aged 23, made her debut in the third season. When she initially entered the TV talent show, she was just ten years old.
The show premiered in 2009. Susan Boyle and Diversity, the champion dance team, were well-known there.
Hollie made it to the finals with her performance of Phantom of the Opera’s Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again.
Her classically trained singing voice was well received by the public. Her performance in the show’s semi-final, however, did not go as planned.
The scene in The Sound of Music when Hollie broke down during her performance of Eidelweiss will be remembered for a long time.
She requested Ant and Dec if she could restart the song.
Hollie explained in a TikTok video that BGT bosses prevented her from singing the songs she wanted “because they didn’t want me to win.”
As per Silverscreenbeat, Hollie went on to say that her favorite was Eidelweiss. “wasn’t a song I’d ever heard of before.”
She continued, “I wanted Nessun Dorma like an opera song like BAM, so I’m here. It was something I knew I could do, and I told them I was strong enough to sing it. [producers]It was no.
“They were like ‘no you can’t sing that’ and the only reason why I think they said no – because I was definitely able to sing it – was that they didn’t want me to win”.
She clarified that she had a nervous breakdown during the show. “wasn’t Britain’s Got Talent’s fault, they don’t fix it, but the song choices are fixed”.
Hollie did not allow her time on the show to deter her from pursuing a career as a singer.
She self-released three CDs and played Louisa von Trapp in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Sound of Music UK tour in 2011.
Hollie holds a musical theatre diploma. She is now starring as Frenchy in Grease on the cruise ship Harmony of the Seas in Grease.
