Despite what you may have heard, Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are not back together.
During an interview at the Oscars, the 42-year-old Aquaman star shot off rumors of a reconciliation with his 54-year-old wife Bonet. The couple, who had been married for four years and had been dating for 16 years, announced their separation in January.
There had been talking that the pair had reunited and put their divorce procedures on hold in recent weeks, but Momoa confirmed this wasn’t the case when a red carpet reporter brought it up on Sunday.
“It is such an encouragement to see you back together, working on it, figuring it out…” the Access Hollywood reporter remarked to Momoa.
“Oh, no, no, we’re not back together,” he replied.
“We’re family, you know. We have two beautiful children together. We’re not getting back together, we’re family forever.”
Sorry to shatter any wishful thinking, but there’s your answer.
In a joint statement released on their Instagram accounts, Momoa and Bonet confirmed their breakup, causing widespread shock among fans.
The pair wrote in the message that they had “free[d] each other,” but that they remained excellent friends for the sake of their children, Lola, 14, and Nakoa-Wolf, 13.
“We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times … A revolution is unfolding ~and our family is of no exception … feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring,” the note read.
“And so~ We share our Family news~ That we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy ~ But so that~ as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty.
“The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and loved. We free each other ~to be who we are learning to become … Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life & our Children Teaching our Children What’s possible ~ Living the Prayer May Love Prevail J & L.”
The Hollywood couple met at a jazz club in 2005, were introduced by mutual friends, and married in 2017.
