Chris Brown talked about the attack by his security dog

Chris Brown has given his version of events in an ongoing lawsuit filed by a former housekeeper who claims she was brutally attacked by one of his dogs at his Los Angeles home. The singer is asking the court to dismiss parts of the case, including claims for intentional infliction of emotional distress and punitive damages.

The legal battle stems from a December 12, 2020, incident in which housekeeper Maria Avila says she was severely injured while working at Brown’s residence. In her lawsuit, Avila alleges that she was taking out trash when a large brown dog “viciously” attacked her. She claims she “screamed in terror and called out for help” as the dog mauled her, as per Rolling Stone.

According to Avila, Brown came outside during the attack but did little to assist. She alleges that he stood over her while talking on his phone and then left her lying on the driveway, “bleeding to death.” Avila says she was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and now suffers from lasting disfigurement, nerve damage, and partial loss of vision.

Brown’s account, however, paints a very different picture. In a sworn deposition submitted to the court, the “Under the Influence” singer said he never heard Avila screaming and saw no sign of serious injury when he went outside. He stated that he only left the scene after his manager advised him to do so once paramedics were on their way.

“I didn’t touch her. I bent down and I looked. I was making sure she was breathing, and then from there, I ran and put the dogs away and yelled and told the security guard to come over,” Brown testified.

The R&B star insists he took immediate action to secure the animals and ensure help was on the way. His legal team argues that Avila’s emotional distress and punitive damage claims should be thrown out, calling them exaggerated and unsupported by evidence.

The housekeeper’s lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, seeks financial compensation for medical costs, pain and suffering, and the long-term impact of her injuries.

While Brown has faced multiple legal disputes over the years, this case has drawn attention for its starkly conflicting narratives. Both sides continue to stand by their accounts as the civil proceedings move forward. A judge is expected to rule soon on whether Avila’s additional claims will remain part of the case.
