Millie Bobby Brown reveals how plastic surgery rumors impacted her mental health

Millie Bobby Brown has spoken candidly about the emotional toll plastic surgery rumours took on her mental health, revealing how deeply affected she was by online criticism during a recent press tour. The 21-year-old actress came under intense scrutiny while promoting her upcoming film The Electric State in March 2025.

At the time, Brown was targeted by online trolls who accused her of undergoing cosmetic procedures and claimed she looked far older than her actual age. While she publicly denied the speculation, she has now shared how damaging the comments were behind the scenes.

In an interview with British Vogue, Brown described falling into a short but intense depressive episode as the rumours spread. “I was depressed for three, four days. I was crying every day. ‘Oh my God, what has she done with her face? Why has she gone blonde? She looks 60 years old!’ I respect journalism,” she said.

The actress made it clear that her issue was not with reporting itself, but with the tone and framing often used when discussing young women in the public eye.

“I love reading articles on my favorite people and hearing what they’re up to,” she added. “I understand that there’s paparazzi, even though it’s invasive, even though it feels like sh-t to me, I know that’s your job. But don’t, in your headline, slam me at the get-go.”

Brown, who has grown up almost entirely in the spotlight, said the experience highlighted how normalized harsh criticism has become, particularly for young actresses navigating fame.

“It is so wrong, and it is bullying, especially to young girls who are new to this industry and are already questioning everything about it,” she said.

She also reflected on the unrealistic expectations placed on her since rising to fame as a child star, explaining that some fans and commentators seem unwilling to accept her natural взрос evolution.

“For some reason, people can’t seem to grow up with me. Instead, they act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time… And because I don’t, I’m now a target,” Brown concluded.

The actress is currently focused on promoting the final season of Stranger Things, which helped launch her career. Volume 3 of the show’s final season is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on December 31, 2025.

As Brown prepares to close a defining chapter of her career, her remarks have reignited conversations around online bullying, ageism, and the pressures faced by young women growing up in the public eye.
