A federal judge has recommended that Sean “Diddy” Combs serve the rest of his four-year prison sentence at a facility near New York City, allowing the music mogul to remain closer to his family while receiving access to rehabilitation programs.
According to court documents obtained by People, Judge Arun Subramanian did not specify an exact location but suggested that Combs be placed at a federal prison in the New York metropolitan area. The recommendation emphasizes the importance of family visitation and participation in available treatment programs.
The judge also advised that Combs be assigned to a facility offering “any available substance abuse program, including the Bureau of Prisons’ Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), for which he qualifies.”

The recommendation follows a formal request submitted by Combs and his legal team on October 6, asking to serve his remaining time at the Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix in New Jersey, a low-security facility known for its rehabilitation and educational programs.
The filing from Combs’ attorneys stated, “In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for (Residential Drug Abuse Program) purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs.”
Judge Subramanian’s recommendation aligns with that request, though the final decision rests with the Bureau of Prisons, which determines facility placement based on several factors, including security level, program availability, and inmate history.
Combs, 54, is currently being held at a federal detention center in Brooklyn while awaiting transfer to a permanent facility. His legal team has argued that remaining near his family and support network would improve his rehabilitation prospects and overall well-being.

The recommendation comes amid ongoing public attention surrounding Combs’ conviction and sentencing, which followed a string of investigations into his business dealings and personal conduct. While specific details of his current incarceration have not been made public, sources have said that the artist has maintained good behavior and is participating in available programs while in custody.
If approved, Combs’ transfer to Fort Dix or another nearby federal institution could take place within weeks. The facility, located about 70 miles south of New York City, houses roughly 2,800 inmates and offers work training, educational courses, and substance abuse counseling.
As of now, Diddy remains in Brooklyn’s federal jail awaiting the Bureau of Prisons’ final decision on his placement.
