Influencer Liv Nevill has left people stunned after sharing a terrifying video of what she calls the harsh “reality of being a woman” while walking home alone at night.
Liv, who has more than 258,000 Instagram followers, posted the clip, showing herself visibly shaken inside a Co-op as staff and a stranger tried to help her after a man allegedly followed her home.
In the video, Liv explains exactly what happened, saying: “A man was following me home so I went into the nearest shop but he then followed me into the shop and started yelling what he wanted to do to me.”
She says the situation quickly escalated, and her fear only grew as the man began causing a scene.
“I was so scared and overwhelmed but then he continued to yell at the staff about me,” she added.
Liv said Co-op staff members stepped in and managed to calm things down, later telling her the man had left the store. But something still felt off.
“But I had a gut feeling he hadn’t left. “Staff checked down the street, they then came back and said he was hiding further down the street.” That is when the reality of the situation hit her even harder. “What if I hadn’t made them go double check?,” she added.
Co-op workers advised Liv to stay inside for another 10 minutes to be safe. During that time, the man was reportedly seen getting on a bus, giving her a chance to leave without him nearby.
Still, Liv was clearly shaken, and she says a stranger offered help in a way that restored her faith in people. “This woman doing her grocery shop came up to me and said she’d wait with me – and insisted she walks me home so that I feel safe.
“One act of kindness can restore your faith in humanity.” Afterwards, Liv reflected on how exhausting it is to constantly stay on guard, saying: “The reality of being a woman. “This is why we get scared walking outside as soon as the light goes. This is why we say ‘text me when you get home’.
“This is why we divert our routes to be along busy roads.” She continued: “I could go on for days about how much we have to think about how our day to day actions can keep us safe. “I guess if I’ve learnt anything this past year it’s girls, trust your gut instinct with everything and thank god for women helping other women.”
Viewers flooded her comments with support, with one person writing: “It’s sad that almost all of us have been through something similar at least once…I’m so sorry girl.” Another said: “What an awful experience. I’m so sorry that happened to you. And good to know there are caring people out there.”
“Very frightening, I am sorry you experienced this,” added another. “So awful to watch – glad others stepped in and you’re OK,” commented another. Liv says she has since contacted police and received victim support, but her latest update left followers even more frustrated.
“I told the police everything…I even said I could get hold of the CCTV footage etc, and they’re not going to do anything.”
“The fact that that man has been let completely off the case and there are no repercussions is really scary.”
Liv claims police told her they “might call her back next week” about the CCTV, and she says she will keep her followers updated if anything changes.
