Joe Rogan has revealed why his massively popular show was absent from this year’s Golden Globe nominations, saying the decision was entirely his.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the 58-year-old addressed speculation around the newly introduced Best Podcast category and why he never submitted his show for consideration.
“They asked me to submit to be nominated for the Golden Globes, and you had to pay $500. And the $500 is like for paperwork or whatever,” Rogan explained. “I said no.”
“I don’t want to be a part of that,” he added.
Despite being one of the most listened-to podcasts across Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube in 2025, The Joe Rogan Experience did not appear among the six nominees for the inaugural award.
Instead, the category featured Amy Poehler’s Good Hang, SmartLess hosted by Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes, along with Armchair Expert by Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy by Alex Cooper, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and NPR’s Up First.
Poehler ultimately won the award. “I’m sure it’s good. It won. I’m sure someone must love it,” Rogan said of Poehler’s show. “If it sucked, they would give it to someone else, right?”
He went on to acknowledge the backlash that followed her win. “I just know that Amy Poehler won and a lot of people are upset,” Rogan said. “‘She’s had a podcast for six months and she won. Great, you gave it to a famous person.’ Which, you know, in that world that’s what they do.”
Rogan reiterated that his absence was not a snub but a choice. “I just know that I didn’t submit,” he said. “I don’t want to be a part of that. I don’t care. You’re just a group of people that just decide, all of a sudden, that you’re going to give an award out? ‘I get a trophy’? F–k off!”
The longtime UFC commentator said accolades were unnecessary given his audience reach. “You can’t tell me I didn’t win. I’ve been number one for six years in a row,” he told guest Bert Kreischer. “All of sudden, you’re going to have a contest in front of all these people wearing tuxedos and you’re going to say now I’m not number one?”
“F–k off…I don’t care that I’m number one, but I am, in fact, number one,” Rogan concluded. Rogan is not alone in criticizing the Golden Globes’ podcast category. Bill Maher, who also went home empty-handed this year, blasted the awards body for excluding Rogan.
“Did you see that there’s a podcast category at the Globes?” Maher said on his Club Random. “They only nominated like the super woke stuff.”
“I’m sure there were good shows, but it was glaring that Joe Rogan was not nominated,” he added. “I mean, it is kind of popular.”
