Gigi Hadid made another striking entrance at the Met Gala, turning heads for the second consecutive year with an intricately embellished gown that was, quite literally, built on her body just days before the event.
The model wore a custom Miu Miu dress adorned with hotfix crystals, patchwork flames, and floral embroidery, a look that almost did not come together as originally imagined. Hadid revealed that the design had to be overhauled at the last minute after the patchwork failed to fall the way she had envisioned from the original sketch.
“The patchwork really wasn’t sitting on my body the way that I anticipated from the sketch,” she explained ahead of the event. Rather than scrapping the concept, Hadid and her team improvised in a hotel room just 48 hours before she stepped onto the red carpet. The result was something far more organic — and, she says, far more meaningful — than the original plan.
“We all sat in a hotel room two days ago, literally, and Scotch taped the patches onto me in a way that felt celebratory,” she says. “It’s built on the body. The body is the canvas.” For Hadid, the spontaneity did not detract from the final look — it enhanced it. “I think the most special moments come when you have to rush it a little bit,” she said.
What emerged was a gown that felt deeply personal, blurring the line between fashion and the human form beneath it. “I love how the body and the skin spoke through the material,” she said. The look was completed with jewellery from Jessica McCormack — an Asymmetric Emerald Diamond Hoop Earring and a 5.01ct Heart-Shaped Diamond Button Back Ring — subtle touches that let the drama of the dress take centre stage.
The appearance marked Hadid’s second straight year opting for an embellished silhouette at fashion’s biggest night, cementing her reputation as one of the event’s most consistently bold dressers.
